About Event

The African Steel Evergreen Project is proud to present its first major event:  A Step Towards a Greener Tomorrow – a tree planting and climate advocacy initiative aimed at planting 1,000 trees across Lagos State.

“The Evergreen Project Lagos”, a brainchild of Miss Mahika Anmol Gupta, Arjun Gupta, Darsh Gupta along with Co- partner Kayode Fasawe kicked off the 1,000 Tree Planting Project in Lagos on 21st December 2021 in support of the legacy drive.

Why This Event Matters

Lagos, with its growing population and coastal vulnerabilities, faces numerous challenges from climate change. Flooding, rising sea levels, and loss of green spaces are affecting communities, businesses, and overall urban sustainability. A Step Towards a Greener Tomorrow aims to:

Trees act as natural carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide and helping to cool the environment.

Tree roots help retain soil and reduce runoff, minimizing flood risks.

Trees are essential habitats for wildlife and play a critical role in sustaining ecosystems.

Green spaces improve air quality, provide shade, and make urban areas more livable.

“ The state government is committed to tree planting since 2008, adding that it had planted over eight million trees in the last 13 years. 60,000 trees had also been planted across different locations in the state during my tenure. Such efforts are a demonstration of my administration’s commitment to preserving the environment for future generations. I also commend the Gupta family for the tree planting initiative and urge other residents of the state to join the effort for more trees to be planted in the state”

– Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, Governor of Lagos State.
